When All Is Perfect in the World
June 29th, 2007Every fly-fisherman dreams of the times of being engulfed in a cloud of winged insects as they hatch off the top of the water. Today was such a day…as I stood on the banks of The South Platte river in Eleven Mile Canyon, several Blue-Winged Olives began hatching…after about 30 minutes they were all over me, and, all over the water. I watched as trout after trout began eating as fast as they could. Most were sipping the top of the water and you could see the hump of their back as they went back under, but some were jumping clear out of the water. What was a quite ripple of dark water before me 30 minutes before, was now boiling.
I feverously looked thru my fly box….and there they were! I tied on a BWO dry fly and began tossing it in the middle of the boil. Over the next 10 minutes I quickly landed 7 fish…all very nice size.
As I walked out, around noon, I looked up and down the canyon walls, with the sun beating on the rim…the river was running and all I could hear was the water and the hawk that was yelling above me as he circled…At that moment, all was perfect in the world!
