Bratz - NOT!! Posted by Kittino

I said that I wasn’t going to say anything about taking little Kitty to see the Bratz movie. Sometimes, contrary to popular belief, I’m not looking for a “discussion.” I know that some people, even some of my friends, have a problem with the Bratz dolls so rather than make an issue of it, I decided to keep my mouth shut - for once! Well, it’s out now - I took my 7 year old to see the Bratz movie. I didn’t read any reviews about it, didn’t ask anyone’s opinion, didn’t do any research. I just knew that my daughter’s biggest desire for the month of August was for her momma to take her to see the Bratz movie on the weekend it opened. So I did the only thing a momma with too much mercy could do and took her on a special date.

Now for my review…..the movie was really good (for a kids’ chick flick). The Bratz were actually the nice girls in the film, the girls who were trying to break down the cliques and accept all of the students just as they were. They hung out with the jocks, the science geeks, the cheerleaders, and the musicians. They were true fashionistas, but their clothes didn’t show skin and weren’t in the least sleezy. In fact, to be honest, I was taking fashion notes throughout the movie! They were four girls who were determined to stick together and support each other no matter what. The movie showed some pretty typical peer pressure for students, but the Bratz withstood.

There was also no real love story in the show. There was a deaf boy who became good friends with one of the girls, and there was a science geek who became good friends with another, but no one kissed or even discussed romantic feelings or crushes. It wasn’t a boy/girl kind of movie.

Little Kitty and I thoroughly enjoyed it and will purchase the movie when it comes out on video. Its message was one of acceptance of all kinds of kids and staying true to your friends regardless of the peer pressure to hang out in special cliques. Bratz they were not!!!
