Last night, we had a few extra children spend the night. On the front end, let me say that all of the kids acted great, including mine. There was no fighting, no disobedience, no problems whatsoever. I just made a small observation that I wanted to share. We had two extra boys and one extra girl. Boys are rowdy, right? Boys get out of control in small places, right? Girls are sweet and soft-voiced and just play quietly with their Barbies, right? Wrong on all accounts. Yes, the boys got a little rowdy, and yes, the girls were sweet and did play with their Barbies, but….
Rowland and I decided that since all of the kids had their own friends to play with, we would play with each other. We rented “The Last King of Scotland,” a great, great movie! We must’ve paused that movie 8 or 10 times for the girls’ needing something to drink, their video fixed, them out of bed for every reason under the sun, etc., etc., etc. The boys are a little smarter; they hide from us. Not literally, but they definitely stay away. They’ve figured out that if they’re quiet and mind their own business, we leave them alone. They have more freedom and get to stay up later as well. The girls, on the other hand, can’t even take baths without trying to talk over each other and getting louder and louder and louder. It’s not that they’re doing anything wrong; it’s just that girls are more high-maintenance, myself included. Four boys vs. three girls…… Thank you, God, for little girls, especially since I am one, but thank you, God, for giving me boys to balance out the house!!
